Mastercard files 15 trademark applications centered around its logo and marketing slogan
International payment processing giant Mastercard is the latest financial firm to file for trademarks focused on the metaverse sector and crypto at large. The company reportedly filed fifteen trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on April 4.
Licensed trademark specialists and attorney Mike Kondoudis took to Twitter to highlight the fact that filings indicate the financial giant is planning to use its intellectual property across different Web3 sectors, including NFTs, Metaverse, and digital trading platforms.
Mastercard is looking to trademark its iconic overlapping circles logo, “Priceless” marketing slogan, and the company’s name.
The payment facilitator has demonstrated over the past couple of months that it views the crypto space favorably. In February, Mastercard partnered with Coinbase to make the NFT buying experience more accessible to crypto newcomers. In addition, the company announced in the same month that the expansion of its consulting service to include crypto-related products and strategies.
Mastercard is the latest in the line of traditional financial companies that have filed for crypto-focused trademarks in recent months. Since mid-February, industry giants such as the NYSE, American Express, and Meta, have all sought to protect their intellectual property in the blockchain space.
