Key takeaways:
- Web3 Foundation, the company behind Polkadot and Kusama, has launched an educational series on edX called Web3x
- The four-part series covers everything from blockchain beginnings and Bitcoin to cryptography, consensus, networking, and the Polkadot network
- While the first two parts of the series are aimed at learners from all backgrounds, the latter two parts feature more advanced material, including an overview of Substrate and Rust programming environments
The series covers blockchain fundamentals, Polkadot, Substrate SDK, and Rust programming language
Switzerland-based Web3 Foundation and global online learning platform edX have launched a four-part series focused on blockchain technology and the Polkadot (DOT) platform called Web3x.
The first half of the course starts by covering the basics of distributed ledger technology and proceeds with Polkadot-specific educational material. In the latter half, aimed at users seeking more advanced technical knowledge, the course explores the Substrate software development kit (SDK) and the intricacies of the Rust programming language.
The first part of the series, called Introduction to Blockchain and Web3, arms users with foundational knowledge about blockchain and outlines key skills that are required to become a software developer in the space. In addition, the course covers the history of crypto and key terms, such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Web3.
The second part, Introduction to Polkadot, features a comprehensive overview of the Polkadot network, including the concepts of interoperability, cryptography, consensus, and other networking aspects. The Polkadot course has been put together by the Technical Education team at Web3 Foundation.
Founded in May 2012, edX has provided top-tier educational material curated by some of the world’s most coveted universities and institutions to tens of millions of users across the globe. edX’s outsized presence will help Web3 Foundation – which was founded by Ethereum co-founder Gavin Wood – reach a global audience.
Web3 Foundation CEO Bertrand Perez stated the following about the importance of education in Web3:
“Education is one of the most important foundation pillars for Web3. It’s extremely important that we continue to provide key knowledge around the fundamentals of both Web3 technology and the Polkadot network to help guide the next generation of talented builders, developers and entrepreneurs in the blockchain sector.”
edX founder and 2U Chief Platform Officer Anant Agarwal said that the company is excited to welcome edX as one of the educational platform’s partners.
“edX and Web3 Foundation are both dedicated to increasing access to educational opportunities that help learners unlock their potential in in-demand fields like blockchain,” said Agarwal, and added they are looking to launch more similar courses in the future.
