South Korean customers who preorder the new Galaxy S22 and Tablet S8 devices to receive special NFTs

Samsung is accompanying the launch of its latest flagship S series devices with special non-fungible tokens (NFTs) produced in collaboration with Theta Labs. The electronics giant will reward South Koreans who’ve elected to preorder new smartphones from the Galaxy S22 line and tablets from the upcoming Tab S8 product line, with special digital collectibles.

As a part of Samsung’s pre-order benefits, which will reward eager customers with one of the products from the Galaxy ecosystem, 100,000 KRW coupon, and discount on other Samsung electronics, the South Korean giant is including a special NFT related to the Galaxy S22 series.

Mitch Liu, the CEO of Theta Labs, the company behind the rapidly growing blockchain-powered video streaming platform THETA.tv and the Theta Network, told Decrypt that the new NFTs will grant “ongoing membership benefits and privileges.”

What these special perks will turn out to be is yet unknown. What is known, however, is that in order to claim the commemorative NFTs, users will need to navigate to Theta’s website and use their Samsung preorder codes to complete the verification process.

The partnership between Theta Labs and Samsung dates all the way back to 2019 when the electronics giant made a sizeable investment into the blockchain company via its venture capital investment unit. In that same year, Samsung made news when it started shipping its flagship smartphones with a native blockchain wallet.

The South Korean giant significantly ramped up its involvement in crypto over the past couple of months. In the first week of this year, the company launched a virtual space called 837X in Decentraland. The metaverse store featured the unveiling of the latest S22 smartphones last week, which saw more than 100,000 users attend the virtual event. Later in January, Samsung revealed it plans to ship its new TV models with a first of its kind blockchain-oriented feature, allowing Samsung users to discover and buy NFTs from the comfort of their living room.
